There are two ways to upload your
website to your hosting account prior to your
domain name propagating:
Method 1:
You can use your favorite FTP program to
connect to your account by using your primary
nameserver IP instead of your domain name (because
your domain name will not work prior to domain
propagation). Let's say your primary nameserver's
IP address is 12.123.12.123. You would simply use
your FTP program to connect to that IP address,
and enter your username and password when
prompted.
Method 2:
Another way to upload your website to your hosting account is by using the File Manager tool in your control panel.
File Manager is not as slick as most FTP programs;
one drawback is that it only allows you to upload
12 files at one time, and each file has to be
selected separately (with an FTP program, you can
typically upload entire folders with just a couple
clicks). But if you don't have very many files to
upload (i.e. let's say you only want to upload a
simply "coming soon" or "under
construction" page), then File Manager is a
great tool. For more information on using the File Manager, and other tools in your control panel, check out our
Control Panel
Guide.
